The Sanilac Area Violence Elimination Council is excited to announce they are the recipient of a
$2,500.00 DTE Foundation grant! The grant application submitted by Fundraising Chairperson,
Sherri Lanctot focused on the 20-year celebration of Eva’s Place shelter. The submission
included details of the SAVE Council’s history. The creation of Sanilac County’s only
emergency shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence, sexual assault or
homelessness. The grant proposal shared that our local Sanilac County Community Foundation
endowment funding helped to install the shelter’s fire and security alarm system necessary to
open Eva’s Place in December 1999.

The proposal indicated that the S.A.V.E. Council wished to use the support of the DTE
Foundation grant funding to establish their own endowment fund with the Sanilac County
Community Foundation. The SAVE Council Endowment fund would provide additional revenue
for the Community Foundation to invest for future programs and efforts within our county.
Further, the S.A.V.E. endowment fund would provide an additional option for citizens that
wished to donate to support the Eva’s Place Shelter’s future. After operating Eva’s Place for 20
years it is an appropriate step to give back to the community that has made it all possible. This
also is an effort to ensure Eva’s Place services continue for our Sanilac Citizens in years to
come.

The Sanilac County Community Foundation has taken the lead to introduce the idea of planned
giving for families that are being proactive in setting up estate plans. The Foundation focuses on
investing in our community and efforts to make our community better for all. It is a partnership
that impacts everyone. The funding provided to the S.A.V.E. Council 20 years ago is a clear
example. With the support of the DTE Foundation grant, the S.A.V.E. Council is thrilled to
finally be in a position to give back.
